Discusses the receipient's religious doubts and suggests "a little book which cleared my own mind ... Probabilities, an aid to faith." Further discusses the question of the inspiration of the scriptures and the "circumstance of a Merciful Creator communicating divine knowledge through the medium of his creature's mind; so inspiring Truth, although coloured by transmission."
